Known for its week-long cavalcade of events, California Rodeo, referred to as “Big Week” by locals, is the largest community event held in Salinas. The week consists of parades, barbecues, cowboy poetry, fireworks, concerts, a carnival, and much more.
Big Week, held annually with the Rodeo starting on the third Thursday in July, offers something for every member of the family, and a chance for the entire community to participate in the California Rodeo.
The Rodeo itself is designed to operate like a two-ring circus, each Rodeo performance features events that occur in the arena and on the track simultaneously. While the classic event of saddle bronc riding bucks out in the arena, a horse race might speed by on the track.
Each year, the Salinas Rodeo ranks in the top 20 of nearly 500 North American rodeos sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. For four action-packed days, more than 50,000 spectators pass through our gates to see the country’s top professional rodeo athletes compete. Fans can also shop, eat great food and socialize at the event.
The Rodeo’s involvement with the community is year round and we are proud to be a not-for-profit association that gives back over $250,000 annually to local non-profit organizations in Monterey County.

The California Rodeo Salinas will take place July 19-22, 2012. The California Rodeo Association is a non-profit organization that strives to preserve and promote the traditions of the California Rodeo Salinas and the West. We support the community and other non-profit organizations through the staging of the annual California Rodeo Salinas and other year round operations of the Salinas Sports Complex.

Country superstar Alan Jackson takes his tour to Salinas Municipal Stadium in Salinas, CA on Saturday, July 21st. Tickets for the show may be purchased starting on Wednesday February 8th at 10am from the Salinas Sports Complex Box Office at 1034 N. Main Street* in Salinas or by visiting tickets.com. Ticket prices are $35 for General Admission and $75 for VIP tickets plus applicable service fees. The concert gates will open at 6:30pm at Municipal Stadium on Saturday July 21st following the California Rodeo performance that afternoon. Music will start at 7:30pm; the opening act is still to be determined.
