During the famous Cannery Row Steinbeck Era, fish hoppers played an important role on the Monterey peninsula. The fish hoppers, large square wooden boxes, were anchored off the shores of Cannery Row to receive the fish caught by Monterey s premier fishing fleet. Fishing boat captains guided their overburdened vessels to empty their catches into fish hoppers floating in the Monterey Bay outside of each cannery. The fish were scooped into the cannery, the fish were weighed and then sent to the processing plants.
Today The Fish Hopper Restaurant is located directly on Historical Cannery Row and is situated in the Steinbeck Plaza at 700 Cannery Row. The Fish Hopper stands directly over the beautiful waters of the Monterey Bay. Once an original sardine cannery building, The Fish Hopper offers the most spectacular panoramic views available on the Central coast from every table.
The Fish Hopper has a spacious seating capacity and provides comfortable accommodations for groups of 5 to 300 people. The convenient passenger drop-off area is centrally located in front of specialty shops and we offer free parking for banquets.
The Fish Hopper offers a gourmet selection of menu choices, prime rib, steaks, fresh locally caught seafood, delicious poultry and a variety of fresh pasta dishes as well as a childrens menu. The Fish Hopper also offers and extensive wine list featuring Monterey County wines. Enjoy exotic drinks in our cocktail lounge or outdoor patio with seating capacity up to 50 guests.
