Jack London's Grill & Taproom has been serving local residents as well as visitors for over 30 years in Carmel-by-the-Sea. The current ownership began in 1986 when San Francisco Attorney, Jack Hill, purchased Jack's as a 50 seat pub on San Carlos Street.
Managing Partner Steve Whitfill has worked with Jack for over 20 years. Together, with a faithful core of key employees, the pair have moved through three locations into the current spot on Dolores Street in Su Vecino Court.
Today's Jack London's has evolved from the "little pub" into a 100 + seat "Grill & Taproom" complete with mahogany ceilings and comfortable booths. Jack & Steve have seen a wealth of change in Carmel and have managed to remain one of Carmel's favorite restaurants.
Menu
Jack London's has developed a menu unique in Carmel, boasting samplings of traditional Louisiana recipes and Jacks own style of West Mex. As well as House Smoked Pork Ribs you will find grilled premium Steak Dinners including Ribeye, New York, Tenderloin Filet and Flap Steak. All steaks are hand cut and trimmed in house to insure quality. Any item that include the words "fried" and "Chicken"
are so fragrant and savory that you cannot help but surrender to it.
There is a tantalizing assortment of our own appetizers that will tempt you either before your dinner or in the pub with specialty brews and generous cocktails.
There is the "Wild Burger," boasting Jim Pryor's special Jack's Grind of premium choice beef with just the right balance of "juicy" to hold up big on a bun. The Wild Burger is served with Jack's Fabulous Fries, cut in the back and prepared in the method "pommes frites" to insure the right texture. We use 100% Peanut Oil in the fryers.
Rolfe's Rack of Lamb is a work of art and a tribute to Rolfe Tschudi, friend first, European trained Master Chef as well, and instructor in "Rack of Lamb 101" to us.
Entertainment
Live entertainment in bars or restaurants has traditionally been a crime in Carmel. In 2006, the ban was lifted so that with the right volume and the proper permits it is legal to entertain musically up to 10:00 PM. Jack London's has braved this new world by beginning a Friday Happy Hour Blues Program.
Several local musicians have made the scene. Our debut performance featured the talents of drummer and bandleader Kim Edmundson and singer Lori Hoffer.
Since August, singer & harmonica virtuoso John Mirani presents "Dos Degos" with keyboardist Phil Coniglio. Often guest musicians sit in and offer their special talents. Bassist John Paul and guitarist Nelson as do Keyboardist and singer Sonny Gee. Guitarist Michael Lett even sits in from time to time.
With discounted appetizers, beers and dinners from 4:30-6:30, you can settle in for a truly enjoyable early dining experience at Jack London's on Friday in the early evening.
