Monterey-Salinas Transit serves the entire county of Monterey and beyond.

The transit company provides bus service as far north as Watsonville, connecting passengers to Santa Cruz Metro and to Gilroy, where riders can connect with Caltrain commuter rail service to San Jose and San Francisco.

To the south, MST carries passengers from King City to Salinas and the Monterey Peninsula with stops in all the communities in between.

The bus line also connects Salinas to the Monterey Peninsula, traveling as far east as Carmel Valley.
During the summer season MST operates Line 22 to Big Sur along with the MST Trolleys - Victorian-style trolleys which shuttle passengers to downtown Monterey, Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row, the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Pacific Grove.

MST provides special services to the residents and visitors of Monterey County during community events such as First Night Monterey, Big Sur International Marathon, Laguna Seca Races and California International Airshow.

Other features of the transit company include DART, a customized mini-bus which the customer arranges directly with MST and special accommodations for the elderly, disabled and riders who are unable to use regular and fixed-route transit.

MST encourages reduced traffic and parking congestion in the county, maintaining a group discount program for local businesses and their employees as well as a money-saving pass program for individual commuters. For information on group and pass sales call an MST customer service representative or visit MST Online.

Monterey-Salinas Transit was formed in 1981 when Monterey Peninsula Transit absorbed the Salinas Transit System . The City of Salinas became a member of the Monterey Peninsula Transit joint powers agency, and the Board of Directors renamed the system Monterey-Salinas Transit.

Current members of the joint powers agency are the Cities of Carmel, Del Rey Oaks, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Salinas, Seaside, and the County of Monterey, and Gonzales (ex officio). A Board of Directors with a representative from each member jurisdiction governs the agency and appoints the General Manager.
