This inviting, three-story landmark is located across from historic Colton Hall in the heart of Old Monterey. Eight galleries are devoted to exhibitions of American and early California painting, photography and contemporary art featuring significant collections of work by Armin Hansen, William Ritschel, Ansel Adams and Edward Weston. An art reference library offers a quiet place to read and research anytime the Museum is open. A gift shop includes creative and unusual cards, jewelry and a fine selection of books about your favorite period of art or artist and more. Wheelchair access is available at the sculpture park entrance located between Pacific and Calle Principal Streets.

Contemporary galleries complement the old-world elegance and lavish rose gardens of this gorgeous, historic estate. Located in one of Monterey’s oldest neighborhoods, La Mirada began as a modest stone adobe in the Mexican period. It was later remodeled to become an elegant home where the great stars of silent film were entertained. In 1994, the gallery wing was added to accommodate exhibitions of works by popular. critically acclaimed and important emerging artists of today ranging from classic and contemporary impressionists to renown photographers to pioneers of new mediums and visual interpretations of the world around us.
The Monterey Museum of Art- La Mirada is also a perfect venue for weddings, meetings and special events.

There are many benefits to becoming a member of the Monterey Museum of Art. Fees begin at $20 for students and $40 for Individuals. However the best value is the $100 Contributor level that entitles you to free admission all year to 449 participating museum and cultural centers throughout the United States– including the de Young and Asian Art Museums in San Francisco.
