When visiting historic Old Town Monterey, come and enjoy the atmosphere of a truly authentic British pub and restaurant. Slip back in time to the days of royal splendor and old sailing ships. Relax and enjoy one of our 20 international beers on tap. Order a cocktail, try a glass of our excellent California wines or select a classic single malt scotch. Choose from an array of appetizers. Salads and Sandwiches. The full menu contains eighteen reasonably priced entrees/daily specials, Plus a children's menu. We are open from 11 A.M to 2 A.M. seven days a week.

There's a lot to be said for being outside on our full-service warm, cozy patio. Sit back and relax. Take in the local sights while sipping on a well deserved beverage or smoking a fine cigar with your after dinner drink. Imagine you are sitting in your favorite Pub by The River Thames in good old London town. When it's foggy it may almost seem like the real thing! But don't worry, our attentive staff will light a lantern, we'll make sure you don't get lost or forgotten.

English Fish and Chips: Tender white and flaky Icelandic cod dipped in our own special light beer batter and fried to a crispy golden brown served with English cut chips and tartar sauce. This dish was traditionally served wrapped in newspaper, but due to the unavailability of British Newspaper we are unable to carry on this tradition. One Piece $8.50 Two Pieces $12.95

Plymouth Platter: A combination of Icelandic cod, calamari, scallop and prawn. Dipped in our special beer batter and deep fried until golden brown. Served with thick English cut chips and tartar sauce. The pilgrims set sail from Plymouth, England in the year 1620 on the 180 ton Mayflower, reaching Cape Cod two and a half months later they supplemented their mediocre diet by catching seafood, thus the Plymouth Platter. $13.50

Drakes' Calamari and Chips: Tenderized calamari deep fried in our special beer batter and served pub style with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. In 19934 an aged oddley shaped bottle was found on Monterey's Fanshell Beach - inside they discovered a Queen Elizabeth I silver six pence and a lead scroll. W as it thrown overboard from the "GOLDEN HIND" when SIR FRANCIS DRAKE anchored in Monterey Bay in 1579 or was it left to pay for his calamari? $11.50

Crown & Anchor Burger: Made daily with 1/2 lb. of fresh ground beef and spices served on a large bun, garnished with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, pickle and onions, topped with bacon and melted cheese. Served with french fries. $8.50 or Try a Vegetarian Garden Burger. $7.50

Henry VIII Sirloin of Beef: A hearty English meal tender Top Sirloin of Beef roasted very slowly, served with Yorkshire batter pudding, mashed potatoes and vegetables. Henry VIII 1509 to 1547 was well known for the number of wives he acquired and how he disposed of them. He was also well known for disposing of great amounts of food. He enjoyed a whole loin of beef so much at a royal feast that he knighted the roast Sir-loin. So enjoy your sirloin.. $12.50

Shannons' Corned Beef and Cabbage: Best corned beef simmered for hours in a guinness water liquor and spices. Served with cabbage and vegetables. Many believe that the greatest duel fought at sea was between the British 38 Gun Frigate "Shannon" and the 38 Gun American ship "Chesapeake" - 15 miles off Boston Harbor in 1813, both captains were seriously wounded. $11.95

Paul Jones' Spicy Meatloaf: This spicy dish was a favorite with sailors making a change from their everyday boring rations. It consists of ground beef with lots of different spices and ingredients. Served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. John Paul Jones was born in Kirkborn, Scotland, the son of a Scottish gardener. He became an American Naval Officer during the American Revolution. He commanded the 44 Gun Frigate "La Bonhomme Richard" and distinguished himself in many battles. $10.95

Sovereigns' Lamb Shanks: Succulent lamb shanks braised slowly with herbs, spices and vegetables in our own special sauce. Served with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The Sovereign of the Seas was launched in 1637, she cost the British taxpayers so much money that it resulted in King Charles the 1st losing his head. She was never defeated in battle for over 60 years and was at last destroyed by fire, a cook overturning a candle. $13.50

George III Steak and Mushroom Pie: Best beefsteak simmered with onions and mushrooms in a spicy burgundy sauce topped with pastry and baked to perfection in a hot oven served with mashed potatoes, vegetables and gravy. When George III was crowned King in 1760, a large jewel fell from George's Crown, the superstitious were later to point to this as an omen foretelling the loss of the American colonies during the war of Independence. $11.95

Sloats' Chicken Pie: Tender pieces of chicken braised with onions, mushrooms, and spices in a smooth creamy sauce covered with pastry and freshly baked. Served with mashed potatoes, vegetables, and gravy. In 1842 Commodore "JOHN DRAKE SLOAT" anchored the USS Frigate "SAVAHAH " in Monterey and raised the star & stripes thus extending American territory "From Sea to Shining Sea." $11.95

Nelsons' Cottage Pie: Ground beef, vegetables, and onions cooked in a rich spicy sauce, topped with mashed potatoes and baked in the oven until golden brown. Served with vegetables or salad. Lord Nelson was without doubt Britains Greatest Naval hero. He commanded the 104 Guns H.M.S. Victory at the battle of Trafalgar defeating a superior French and Spanish combined fleet. He sent the famous signal. . . "England expects that every man will do his duty." Although the English fleet was completely victorious. Nelson was mortally wounded and died the same day 21st of October, 1805. $10.95

Mary Roses' Chicken: A boned chicken breast brushed with mustard, covered with a thick slice of ham with sliced avocado topped with cheese and grilled to perfection . Served with a creamy chicken sauce, rice and vegetables. "Mary Rose" the pride of Henry VIII's navy, capsized in Portsmouth Harbor in 1544 from having to great a weight in armament "upstairs" and her lower guns too near the waterline, she heeled over in a turn, water poured in and she sank like a stone with over 700 people on board. Whilst Henry watched helplessly from the shore. $12.50

Bountys' Bangers and Mash: Two plump juicy British sausages. Served with fried onions, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and gravy. In 1787 "H.M.S. Bounty" commanded by Lieut. William Bligh was returning to England from the Pacific. Mutiny broke out because of Blighs' tyranny and harsh treatment. Bligh and 18 loyal men were set adrift. They reached Java 4,000 miles away, without loss of life, a great feat of navigation. The mutineers were later found and brought to justice. $10.95

USS Constitution' New York Steak: A 12 oz. New York grilled to perfection served with potatoes and vegetables. USS Constitution was constructed in Boston and launched there in 1797. She was the 1st USA Frigate of 1,576 tons and was rated a 44 gun vessel. She was never defeated in battle. In 1830 a proposal to dismantle her was abandoned after O.W. Holmes' poem "Old Ironsides" and since 1897 has lain in Boston Harbor the Pride of the U.S. Navy! $21.95

Cutty Sarks' Curries
Chicken $11.95, Prawns $12.95 or Vegetable $9.50: Tender breast of chicken or prawns braised with fresh vegetables and special Indian spices in a creamy sauce. Served with rice and chutney; or try our Vegetarian curry sauteed with a mixture of crisp fresh curried vegetables. The Clipper "Cutty Sark" is probably the most famous of fast sailing ships. Built on the Clyde in 1869, her main mast towering 152 feet, she hoists 32,000 square feet of sail (more sail for her size than any other clipper.) She brought spices from the East and wool from Sydney and holds the fastest sailing time from Sydney to London reaching speeds of 17 1/2 knots.

John Montagu the VI, Earl of Sandwich placed a piece of meat between two
slices of bread. This English diplomat died in 1792 not knowing how popular
his sandwich was to become.
