Monterey Wine County boasts over 40,000 acres of grapes and includes nine appellations that have been officially identified as having unique characteristics. There are over 85 vintners and growers and Monterey is home to over 25 tasting rooms that are open to the public. These visitor centers provide a scenic and relaxing atmosphere where guests enjoy friendly hospitality while sampling and learning about the wines.

Whether selecting a bottle of Monterey County wine from a wine list, making a Monterey County wine purchase at a retailer, or visiting one of the friendly Monterey County wineries within the growing Monterey wine region, every wine enthusiast will be pleased with the quality and exceptional taste that is found in each bottle of Monterey County wine.

Monterey Wine Auction & Gala

 Wine Auction & Gala, May 8, 5:30 PM- 10:00 PM at the Mission Ranch in Carmel.

The Monterey Wine Auction & Gala is an exciting opportunity to share an intimate dinner with the winemakers and growers from Monterey County. A viticulture leader is honored each year for their contributions to the industry, community and causes that are supported through the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association Foundation. The 2010 honoree will be Rich Smith, President of Paraiso Vineyards and valley Farm Management.
    Live and Silent auction items are bid on throughout the evenings festivities. The auction proceeds benefit collage scholarships for children of local agriculture employees, agriculture studies thought the American Vineyard Foundation and viticulture research through the University of California's Monterey Outreach Office. Previous community beneficiaries have included Habitat for Humanity, Heal the Bay, The Boys and Girls Club, and the Central Coast Visiting Nurses Association. National beneficiaries have included Best Buddies, Cure Brest Cancer, Inc and the Community Alliance of Family Farmers. This event is managed through the Monterey County Vintners and Growers Foundation, a 501c3 organization.

Over 50 Monterey County Wineries will pour new releases and special wines in Monterey's Historic Custom House Plaza. The outdoor festival showcases the best of Monterey and also features barrel building, live music and a silent auction.
